In accordance with federal and state regulations, Mansfield ISD Special Education Department will begin the routine destruction of special education records for students who graduated, exited, or ended services seven (7) years before the current school year.
Parents, legal guardians, or adult students may request copies of these records before they are destroyed. Records may be helpful for Social Security benefits, vocational rehabilitation, or other future services.
Requests must be made in person at the MISD Special Education Office
Office hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Valid proof of identity is required
Records will be released within 10 business days after a request and/or signed consent is received
Deadline to request records: November of each year
Destruction of records begins: December of each year
A formal public notice will also be published in the local newspaper each October
