Itinerant instructional services are provided for students who qualify for special education under the eligibility of Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH). These students have been diagnosed with hearing loss by a medical professional, such as an ENT or audiologist, and have been determined to need specially designed instruction to support their learning.
Instruction is tailored to each student’s individual needs and may be provided weekly or several times per grading period. Services take place at the student’s home campus, allowing them to remain in their familiar school environment.
Itinerant vs. Regional Day School Program for the Deaf (RDSPD)
Itinerant services are for students whose needs can be met at their neighborhood school with support from a DHH teacher.
RDSPD services are available for students who require more intensive support. Mansfield ISD partners with Arlington ISD through a shared service agreement to provide access to the Regional Day School Program for the Deaf.
Placement decisions are made through the evaluation and IEP process, ensuring each student receives the level of support that best meets their educational needs.
