Adapted Physical Education (APE) is specially designed, modified physical education for students with disabilities to ensure maximum participation and development of motor skills, fitness, and lifelong leisure and recreational opportunities. It is a federally mandated service under IDEA, to help students with disabilities meet their physical education goals in the least restrictive environment possible.
Adapted Physical educators serve students throughout the district in the area of physical education. Adapted Physical educators work on overall fundamental motor skills in the areas of locomotor and object control skills based off student’s individual’s needs. Our mission is to provide a physical education program in which activities and teaching methods are adapted to the specific strengths and needs of students with disabilities. Our focus is to give individuals the skills necessary for a lifetime of rich leisure, recreation, and sport experiences.
