Child Find is a legal requirement under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that mandates schools to identify, locate, and evaluate (at no cost) all children from birth through 21, who are suspected of having a disability. This includes children from birth through age 21, regardless of whether they attend public school, private school, are homeschooled, or are experiencing homelessness.
If a parent, teacher, or caregiver suspects a child may have a disability, they can request an evaluation.
The school district will then:
Review the concern
Obtain parental consent
Conduct a comprehensive evaluation
Determine eligibility for special education services
All services are provided at no cost to families.

Currently Enrolled and Attending a Mansfield ISD Campus
Children 3-5 years old, who reside within the MISD boundaries and are already enrolled in a Mansfield ISD campus, will make evaluation requests to your child’s teacher and/or campus administrator.
Not Enrolled in a Mansfield ISD Campus
Children 3-5 years old, who reside within the MISD boundaries and are not yet enrolled in school are referred to the MISD Preschool Assessment Team. To begin the evaluation process, please complete the MISD Child Find Intake or contact the Special Education Department at 817-299-4300 to complete the intake process.
Currently Enrolled and Attending a Mansfield ISD Campus
Children 6-21 years old, who reside within the MISD boundaries and are already enrolled in a Mansfield ISD campus, will make evaluation requests to your child’s teacher and/or campus administrator.
Not Enrolled in a Mansfield ISD Campus
Children 6-21 years old, who reside within the MISD boundaries and are not currently enrolled in a Mansfield ISD campus, should enroll at their zoned school.
Students attend the school determined by the attendance zone for their home address which can be determined through our Find My Bus system.
Mansfield ISD also provides services to students with disabilities who attend a private or home school located within the district boundaries, regardless of the child’s place of residence.
Educational services to these students are provided under Mansfield ISD’s Private School Plan.
Additionally, Mansfield ISD provides services to students with disabilities who are placed in a foster home or other residential facility within the district’s geographic boundaries.
