Analyze
THEEFFECT OF BALANCED FORCES ON THE STATE OF MOTION OF AN OBJECT USING NEWTON’S FIRST LAW OF MOTION
Including, but not limited to:
Balanced forces – equal and opposite forces on an object that result in no change in position, direction, or motion; combined net force equals zero
Net force – the combination of all of the forces acting on an object
Forces acting in the same direction can be added together for total net force.
Forces acting in opposing directions can be subtracted for the total net force.

THE EFFECT OF UNBALANCED FORCES ON THE STATE OF MOTION OF AN OBJECT USING NEWTON’S FIRST LAW OF MOTION
Including, but not limited to:
Unbalanced forces – unequal forces on an object that may result in a change in position, direction, or motion; combined net force does not equal zero (greater than zero)
Net force – the combination of all of the forces acting on an object
Forces acting in the same direction can be added together for total net force.
Forces acting in opposing directions can be subtracted for the total net force.
Effects of unbalanced forces
Acceleration – rate of change in an object’s speed or direction (velocity)
Examples of acceleration: starting from rest, coming to a stop, speed up, slow down, or turning
