Story #003:
Ms. Greenwood

Ms. Greenwood, MS/US Substitute Teacher

Story by Luisa P.

"I grew up in St. Louis. I went to Mary Queen of Peace in Kirkwood throughout elementary and middle school and switched to Cor Jesu for high school. MICDS is different from the schools I went to growing up. I think that MICDS does a better job of including more diversity. I wasn’t planning on being a teacher and wanted to be a marine biologist when I was younger.

Overall, I had a good relationship with my parents and began to take their advice more and more seriously as time went on. Once, my mom told me, “Time is just a human construct.” This stuck with me because I often get caught up in time. My mom isn’t the only influential person in my life though. In high school I had an English teacher who made teaching look like it could be interesting. Everyone was afraid of her, but still strived to do good in her class. I soon decided to major in English education. One summer I decided to work at the summer camp here, Pegasus. I found out about it through my husband who was already working there.

I decided that I wanted to be a substitute here at MICDS after I decided I didn't want to be a full-time teacher. Since I love English, I thought my favorite subject to teach would be English, but I like teaching science more because there are many different ways of teaching it to people.

One of my funny memories as a teacher is when my class decided to call me the alpha bean since I was calling them my beans. On top of teaching, I love to write, but my current hidden hobby is building book nooks. I hope one day I can write books, but for now, teaching is what I am sticking to."
