Imagine if you met someone at a party-- what question could you ask them to start an interesting conversation?
Imagine if you were teaching and a new student joined your class-- what could you ask them to arrive at a deeper understanding of who they are?
Imagine if you had a new studio mate-- what could you ask them to arrive at a deeper understanding of who they are?
Imagine if you could ask me anything--- what would you ask me?
Now that we have generated some questions, let's put them to good use!
Peer interview pairs:
Vivian & Lauren
Debbie & Aly

I'll call you back in 5 minutes then we'll share out!
And if you would like for me to respond to the questions that you generated for me, please post them to this Jamboard.
Directions
Grab 3 small items (about the size of a penny, or paperclip, or a grape... whatever you've got!)
Place the three items at one end of the area in front of you
The Challenge: Move the three items from one side of the area to the other without touching them
Whoever can get them to travel the distance "wins" the challenge!
What learning purpose might it serve?
Think about the day that you were born. Somewhere on this earth a tree started to grow. That tree has been growing since the day you were born. We don't know where that tree is, but it is as old as you are today. If you were to see your tree today, what would it look like? Think about the kind of tree it is. How big is it? Where is it growing and is there anything nearby? What color is your tree and does it change colors with the seasons? What makes up your tree? What kind of leaves does it have? Does your tree grow fruit? Or flowers? How does your tree feel? How does it smell?
How is your tree like you?
When you have a picture in your head of what this tree looks like, go ahead and create it using the materials of your choice.
Ann Hamilton - Making Not Knowing (PDF linked here). Please take note of some of the key points that resonate with you!
Get organized in Google Drive!
Please create a Google Folder titled "Strategies Your Name S21" and share it with me (elehrmann@mica.edu)
In the folder that you just created, create a Google Doc and title it "Strategy Archive."
On the Doc that you just created, write Strategy Assignment #1 and list at least 4 of the strategies that you noticed implemented in class today AND/OR that you implemented while creating your Tree Like Me.
Note: If you prefer to record strategies in a physical notebook you may! Simply take a photo and upload it to your Google Folder and title it "Strategy Archive 1"
Please take a moment to fill out this First Day Check-in Google Form
Please document your Tree Like Me and add it to this Padlet
Document a recent artwork that you have made and that you feel is a fair representation of your current work. Please upload the documentation to this other Padlet
Start noticing/documenting your creative practice
As you create work for your studio classes (especially your independent classes), please notice what your body, mind and hands are compelled to do. Take written notes and photos. Collect any other relevant documentation or "evidence" as well. Next class we will discuss where to organize that evidence.
The required textbooks (see syllabus)
A notebook (or a section of a notebook devoted specifically to this course)
All of the above must be completed by next Thursday.
The following should be turned in by either sharing with me in Google Drive or submitting to Padlet:
A Google Folder - shared with me - titled "Strategies Your Name S21"
A Google Doc titled "Strategy Archive" inside that folder with strategies from today listed
Documentation of a recent artwork that you have made, uploaded to this Padlet
Your finished A Tree Like Me - documented and added to this Padlet
If you would like for me to respond to the questions that you generated for me, feel free to post them to this Jamboard.
