There are two separate rubrics for the AP Collegeboard Exam, one for the Selected Works portion and the other for the Sustained Investigation. The rubrics below are listed in order of Selected Work then Sustained Investigtion. Both rubrics are labeled at the top.
The highest score on the AP Collegeboard exam is a 6. The Selected Works portion of the portfolio is comprised of 5 digital images of 5 artworks and is 40% of the score. The Sustained Investigation portion is comprised of 15 digital images and is 60% of the score.Â
All portfolios are assessed by at least four highly experienced AP Art and Design teachers or higher education faculty. These evaluators, called AP readers, are trained to apply standardized scoring guidelines. Each of the two sections is reviewed independently based on criteria for that section.
If there is a wide divergence in the scores assigned by two to the same section of a portfolio, the section is forwarded to two Reading leaders for review and resolution of the scores.
