Your summer research assignment will be presented to the class the first week of school. Your presentation order will be chosen at random the day before school starts and posted on our Google Classroom.
**For all AP Students taking the course for a 2nd time: Complete all assignments, modify part 2 & 3 to outline only 1 topic of interest***
Make a list of 40 things you like. The list can originally be written on a phone or loose leaf of paper, but then be sure to transfer it to your sketchbook. The list can be specific or general items, ideas, concepts, topics you are curious about or ones you have already extensively researched, media you have/want to explore, your personal identity, strengths, passions, areas of "unique" knowledge/experience in which you have a personal voice, accomplishments,
example: Blue / Aliens / Rococo style Art / Lilies
If you are feelings stuck with brainstorming, please check out this website and watch the YouTube videos https://claralieu.wordpress.com/2015/05/28/how-to-brainstorm/
2. Choose 3 of your favorite items from your 40 things list. Create 3 SEPERATE mind maps around those topics. Below is a link to videos on mind maps and examples from students. This is what is going to drive the pieces you create for the AP Collegeboard Exam. Your 3 ideas that you choose to focus on should be areas that are feasible and can be researched firsthand

3. With your ideas you are going to create a google slide show documenting your ideas and interests. You DO NOT need to have an inquiry question figured out. We will work on that together in class. You just need to have 3 ideas of areas of interest you would like to explore.
Format:
Slide 1: Intro
Slide 2: List 3 ideas/concepts that are your top choices for exploring
Slide 3: Intro to Idea 1
include an explanation of your idea and how you would visually start to articulate that idea in projects
Slide 4: MindMap of Idea 1
Slide 5: Sketches/Ideas ---- These are rough ideas, not finished works
Slide 6: Photo references
Slide 7: Artistic Inspiration
This is your part of the artist research assignment (Number 4)
You can include the artist research at the end of your slideshow, or integrate it throughout your slideshow
Slide 8: Repeat slides 3-7 for Idea 2 and Idea 3
4. Artist Research
Integrate these artists in your Sustained Investigation proposal Google Slide Show OR have all your references at the end of the slide show
Find 5 artists work you like AND/OR what to emulate in reference to composition/media/subject matter/how artist considers elements and principles
The objective is to find artists you will reference to create your art.
Things to "steal" from artist references: color scheme, application of media, subject matter, how topics/ideas are represented, texture, composition.
For each artist provide:
1 slide with information about the artist
name
picture of artist **if you can find it**
geographic location
interesting facts about the artist, their life/work & why you picked them
Provide 5-7 examples of their work

This is the power point utilized to help create and examine your desired area of focus. The above summer assignment is outlined on page 6 - 25.
