Summer Fair held on Saturday 22nd June 2024
We hope that everyone who came enjoyed our new venture of a Summer Fair on the Playing Fields, held in conjunction with a Craft Fair and Art exhibition in the School Hall. Thankfully the sun mostly shone with just a couple of brief showers that did not appear to dappen spirits for long!
The choice of food ranged from Burgers and Hot Dogs to Pizzas and Ice Creams as well as hot drinks and alcoholic beverages. The live music over the afternoon was from a band, two solo singers and an acapella choir, plus a magician for the children.
There were a variety of stalls on offer from plants, bric-a-brac and sweets to alcohol, wood, and metal products. It was good to see stalls run by village organisations including the Brownies, the Women’s Institute and Bowls club.
There were demonstrations by the Astronomical Society and Bell ringers, plus a vintage car and tractors. Games of skill included “shoot the goalie” and “tomahawk throwing.”
Face painting and games for younger children especially “hook a duck” proved popular.
A big thank you to our raffle sponsors Tramspread and to everyone who donated prizes and bought tickets.
The Craft Fair in the school hall had a great range of homemade gifts and provided a chance to sit down and enjoy tea and cake.
The Art exhibition clearly showed the amazing talent there is in Mendlesham.
To ensure everyone’s safety the St John’s Ambulance were on hand but fortunately were not needed.
Thank you so much to all the willing volunteers who helped with the organisations of the day and expended a lot of energy putting up the marquee and gazebos and taking them down again!
The aim of the day was to provide a village event in one location with a safe space for children to run around and we think we achieved that.
Perhaps with your help we can build on this for a similar but bigger and better event next year.
