Mendlesham Street Fayre 1st May 2023
On Monday 1st May after months of behind the scenes planning Mendlesham welcomed the first Street Fair in four years. It was wonderful to welcome back so many people to the village keen to enjoy a day out. The sun mostly shone and luckily the rain showers were brief.
We hope you enjoy looking through the photo gallery of the day below.
Old Market Street was closed to traffic and lined with a variety of stalls including those serving food and drink as well as crafts and plants. A trailer kindly loaned by C J Frost was beautifully decorated with foliage and provided a great platform for the varied music acts. Attendees were able to enjoy watching a Samba band, Morris dancing and children Maypole dancing. The May Princess and her two attendants were proudly paraded on a bike powered rickshaw, courtesy of Red Gables in Stowmarket.
On the playing fields, the Friends of Mendlesham School Association organised a variety of children’s activities. The main school hall was filled with craft stalls to browse over. A wonderful team of volunteers managed the car parking, public entry points and ensured
all the rubbish was cleared. St John’s ambulance were present in case of any mishaps and there were mobile toilets
available for comfort breaks.
We were delighted with how well the day went and with all the positive feedback we have
received. The monies raised will be used by Mendlesham Community Charity over the coming year to support events and activities benefitting everyone living in Mendlesham.
Mendlesham Community Charity would like to thank all our sponsors and those who donated money and gifts for the raffle. Our thanks also go to Andrew Stringer for the provision of card readers through Suffolk County Council.
Despite rain 15 minutes before the start, the sun shone on our brilliant volunteers.
Tea, coffee, cakes and scones were enjoyed by everyone ,and the Trustees kept the tea and coffee, and the odd glass of water coming.
An enjoyable afternoon!
