Our brilliant volunteers continue to run the 50:50 shop, the tote and deliver the newsletter each month. We are very grateful for their continued support. Have you seen the amazing stock the 50:50 shop has? Why not call in it is open Tuesdays and Fridays between 2.00 and 4.00pm.
The newsletter is delivered free of charge to every home in Mendlesham Parish. Gemma as editor and the newsletter team would love your input. Do you have one of your family’s tried and tested recipes to share, or a gardening tip for the less green fingered of us, could you create a quiz or a crossword? Maybe you have discovered something about the area you would like to share? Do you have some old photographs others might like to see? Or are you part of a club or group which you could tell readers about and maybe gain new members? We cannot guarantee a date for your items or articles to be included but they will be used when space permits.
Our AGM will be held on Wednesday 27th September in the Old School Room from 8pm to 9pm. Everyone is welcome. Come and see who we are, hear what we have been doing and maybe you could offer some suggestions for events and activities.
A dedicated website for Mendlesham Community Charity is under development and will be launched soon. The website will provide up to date information on the charity, our fundraising activities and how the monies raised are used to support events and activities within Mendlesham.
The Charity is fortunate to receive regular funds through the village Tote (only £10.00 per year to join) and the 50:50 shop open twice weekly. In addition, the first May Street Fayre in 4 years was successfully held and raised £3,000 profit all of which will be used for future community events and activities. Thank you to everyone who gave us feedback on the Street Fayre we have lots of ideas and suggestions to take forward.
If you have an idea for a one off or regular event in Mendlesham that requires funding, please contact us. Trustees can offer advice and support to develop ideas. Please complete an Event Planner/Support application form and a risk assessment. Insurance cover is provided for agreed events and activities.
We look forward to working with you on more community events.
It was a brilliant day and luckily the sun mostly shone. The short rain shower mid-afternoon failed to dampen participants spirits. We hope that the changes made this year helped to make it an enjoyable family event for all. There was a wide variety of food and drink options and stalls, as well as a Craft Fair, live entertainment and activities for children on the playing fields. The Procession, Samba band, Morris and Maypole dancers all contributed to the ambience and success of the day. All in all, we hope there was something for everyone.
A huge thank you to all our volunteers without whom the event would not have run as smoothly as it did. Special thanks go to Judith Howard-Rees who co-ordinated the event with great enthusiasm and energy together with a tremendous team of lead volunteers who ensured the day was successful. A great deal of time and effort went into the planning and booking process as well as the setting up on the day and of course the clearing up afterwards, it could not have been achieved without our wonderful team of volunteers. It was worth it, thank you! Thank you also to all our sponsors who donated money gifts.
The Street Fair is our major fundraiser and the profits generated will go towards supporting future events and activities in Mendlesham. If you have any ideas or suggestions about how we can use our funds please let us know we are always happy to hear from you.
Please see here for a report and photos from the 2023 May Street Fair - and a thank-you to our volunteers!
We wrote last month about the MCC and Trustees so now a word about our volunteers. They are our unsung heroes, supporting our ventures on a regular basis.
We could not function without the volunteers who run the 50:50 shop, collect the Village Tote monies, produce the Newsletter and deliver it in all weathers to every household. Then there are the volunteers who run one off community events with our support, as well as those who run our ongoing community events. Last but not least there are those who offer to lend a hand for the bigger events, like the upcoming Street Fair on 1st May 2023.
As Trustees we may not say it very often; but we are very grateful for all that you do to support the community and the Mendlesham Community Charity.
Thank you one and all.
PS We are always ready to welcome new volunteers!!!
What we do
As we approach the end of one financial year and the beginning of another we thought this would be a good point to re state the purpose of the Mendlesham Community Charity (formerly the Mendlesham Community Council). We are an independent Charity whose aim is to raise funds to support a variety of activities for the benefit our community. Our funding comes from the village Tote and the 50:50 shop plus any events we run ourselves. We use the monies raised to support a wide variety of groups and events. Our funding is available for both one off and more regular events. For example, last year we supported the Art session in May for young people to decorate the container by the MUGA, the Platinum Jubilee weekend celebrations, the Writers group and helped Mason Court residents raise funds for a greenhouse. We also supported the weekly “Meet up Monday” group by paying the cost of their room rental. Our brilliant volunteers also make sure you get your copy of this newsletter every month come rain or shine!
If your group or organisation have any ideas about how the MCC could help you through support, funding or even the loan of equipment please contactone of the Trustees to discuss further.
If not, you are missing out on the chance to win a first prize of £35, a second prize of £25, a third prize of £15 or a fourth prize of £10.00 every two weeks. You have to be in it to win it!!
It is just £10 a year to join the tote, so please contact Angela Pickup on 01449 766483 or angiepickup@btinternet.com Good Luck!
If you have had a New Year clear out and have good quality clothing, shoes, jewellery, accessories, homewares or books, take them to the 50/50 shop. You will get 50% of the sale price of clothing and Mendlesham Community Charity receive the other 50% towards funding activities and events for the village.
You will probably end up buying something too as the quality, amount and variety of their stock is amazing. Open Tuesday and Friday afternoons 2.00 to 4.00pm.
Mendlesham Street Fayre is on May 1st, are you one of the many talented crafters/makers we have in and around our community? How about booking a stall for the craft fair. Are you a village organisation or charity needing to raise funds? If so, apply for a stall!
Talking of events; do you have any ideas on celebrations for the Coronation Weekend on 6th to 8th May 2023? If so Denise and Norman Foster are the people to contact on 01449 768978 as they have offered to oversee events.
If you, your organisation or group provide a service or support for the people of Mendlesham the MCC may be able to help with funding so please contact one of the trustees - contact details are in the Newlsletter or use the Contact Us link
We are looking forward to bringing events to our community for pleasure and fundraising, starting with the May Day Street Fayre on 1 May followed by celebrations for the Coronation of The King.
We need someone to step forward to be the Master of Ceremonies and the Co-ordinator and another to take on the role of Marketing and Sponsorship. Do you know someone who could do that? We would love to hear from them. The Event Teams have been busy booking entertainers and stall holders. A Stall Holder’s booking form is now available and if you or an organisation or group that you represent would like to be there, down load the form from the MCC Webpage on the Parish Website and return to Teresa Mills (contact details are on the form). This is a great opportunity for village organisations and groups to shine and fundraise.
Do you have ideas for Celebrating the Coronation over the weekend of 6 to 8 May 2023? Our Platinum Jubilee Team have offered to run the event. Could you join them? Contact Denise and Norman Foster on 01449 768978 for more information.
We are pleased to announce that we have an improved storage facility at White- house Farm for all the MCC owned items. If you are kindly looking after any items, please let us know and we can add them to the Inventory. Items can be loaned for events, for example, glasses, tables, high Vis vests, cones, signs and more, just ask.
If you have an initiative to raise funds or provide support to enhance the lives of those in our community, please let us know. Just go to the Parish Website and look for our page or Google ‘Mendlesham Community Charity’ and download, complete and return the application form to Letitia Goode, Secretary.
