Our AGM on 25th September 2024 gave us an opportunity to reflect on what we achieved over the last year and to look ahead. We have been exploring a number of options for 2025. Suggestions “from the floor” included a family Christmas event. We are therefore delighted to announce:
Children’s Christmas Theatre show to be held on Sunday 8th December 2024
A performance of “Jack and the Beanstalk” by a professional theatre group will take place on Sunday 8th December 2024 at 3.00pm in the main Mendlesham Primary School Hall. Tickets cost £10.00 per adult and £2.50 per child and are available at the shop.
Book and Toy swap: Our book and toy swap sessions in the U.R.C started on Saturday 26th October between 10.00am and 12 noon (see below for an update on the first event). Further session planned for Saturday 30th November and Saturday 25th January 2025. Refreshments will be available. Everyone is welcome.
Dates for your Diary in 2025
Ceilidh: We are hosting a Ceilidh dance on March 29th 2025 in the main school hall- this will be an informal evening of traditional music and dancing- with refreshments and hopefully a bar. More details will be given nearer the date.
Summer Fair: The Summer Fair will be held on 7th June 2025 on the Mendlesham Playing Fields. We are planning to make it bigger and better than 2024 – look out for more details. All village organisations and groups will be contacted and offered the opportunity to have a stall, stand or to run an activity.
New trustee: The Charity is delighted to welcome a new trustee – Ronald Steed.
Please contact any of us if you think the MCC would be able to help your group or organisation with a donation or running an event. Suggesting an event does not mean you would have to run the activity, we will help!
The first of three Book,Toy and Games Swaps took place on Saturday 25th October with a splendid display of books, toys, puzzles and games for children and some adult books and puzzles.
The sight of little ones with a bag of possessions coming along and then choosing some new items was a delight!
Refreshments were enjoyed and as a first trial of this event it felt really worthwhile.
Thank you to all who supported us!
Following our AGM on 25th September 2024 we are busy planning future events, including a Summer Fair on Saturday 7th June 2025 from 12 noon to 5pm on the playing fields. There will be more exhibits and stalls, live music, a magician, food stalls and a bar to name but a few making it bigger and better than 2024! As before all village organisations will be contacted about having a stall, stand or activity at the event. We hope everyone will take up this opportunity to participate, fund raise and promote themselves.
We have an upcoming event - a FREE book, toy, and game swap on Saturday 26th October 2024 from 10am to 12noon in the United Reform Church to be followed by further sessions on 30th November 2024 and 25th January 2025. The event is prompted by suggestions on Facebook and by people leaving boxes outside their doors or in their gardens. for people to take items for free. We thought why not expand, plus an indoor event should limit the chance of items being damaged by the weather! Please bring along any books, toys, games, or jigsaw puzzles that you and your family no longer play with or need to swap for something new. We just ask that all puzzles are complete and that toys are clean, complete, and working. Refreshments will be available at a small cost. Any toys, books or games not exchanged will be safely stored by MCC and bought to the next swap on 30th November 2024 – maybe a chance to find new homes for toys and books before Christmas.
If you would like to take part but cannot make the date, you are welcome to leave items in the front porch at Calgary, Mill Road, Mendlesham, the home of Teresa Mills (MCC Chair).
Please continue to support the Village Tote and the 50:50 shop as without their income we cannot fund the newsletter, run events, or make donations to village groups.
The AGM was held on 25th September 2024 and that the Annual report of the Charity (attached) was presented by Teresa Mills (Chair) with the Treasurers report presented by Sally Lovatt.
The minutes and reports are available below.

Summer is finally here and the tea party in the garden on 21st July 2024 for the charity’s volunteers was a very warm but enjoyable afternoon. It was a small thank you to those who deliver the newsletter, volunteer at the 50:50 shop, collect for the Tote or volunteer to help at events. A huge THANK YOU to all our volunteers.
50:50 Shop
The 50:50 shop volunteers have been busy since the re-opening, including opening on a Saturday due to popular demand. Do drop in and have a browse, you are sure to find something! Please ask about volunteering there if you have some free time on either a Tuesday or Friday afternoon.
Annual General Meeting
Our Annual General Meeting will be on 25th September at 7.30 in the Old School Room. If you are unable to attend the meeting in person then please do send us your ideas.
The clocks have gone forward so spring is on its way; the evenings are lighter for longer now, even if the mornings are darker to start with.
Newsletter
Please can you continue to send in your articles, puzzles, notices, reports, jokes, and recipes to the newsletter team. We cannot promise a date for publication but they will be used and the more you can send in the more entertaining and informative the newsletter will be for everyone. A huge thank you to all our volunteer newsletter deliverers who do a great job in making sure every household in the parish gets a copy each month come rain or shine!
Summer Fair to be held on Saturday 22nd June 2024 between 12 noon and 6.00pm on the Mendlesham Playing Fields
The organisation of the Parish Summer Fair on 22nd June 2024 is well in hand. We are hoping for fine weather on the day; though being British stall holders usually arrive with shelters just in case.
As well as the Craft Fair in the main hall of the school, we will have hot food stalls (with some tables and chairs to sit and eat at) a bar, live music, stalls of all kinds, children’s activities, exhibitions, demonstrations and of course a prize raffle. All in all, it should be an enjoyable day.
Please remember though that the Parish Council DO NOT ALLOW DOGS on the playing field at any time, so you will need to leave your four-legged friends at home.
We would encourage you to walk, cycle or car share to the event if you can.
It is hard to believe we are already a quarter of the way through 2024- time certainly flies.
We are working hard on the Parish Summer Fair to be held on Saturday 22nd June 2024 between 12 noon and 6.00pm on the Mendlesham Memorial Playing Fields. We will have lots of new and exciting things for you to see and do on the day – there will be live music, children’s activities, food stalls and a bar as well as a craft fair in the School Main Hall.
We are holding a Coffee and Cake Parish Summer Fair Meeting on Tuesday 16th April 2024 from 7pm to 8pm in the Old School Room. We would like to invite you to join us and chat over what we are doing. Maybe you could suggest something you would like to see on the day.
We would also be very grateful if you could volunteer just one hour of your time on the day to assist us perhaps by directing stall holders to their pitch, doing a session on our Prize Draw table, or by helping to clear up at the end of the day. There are sure to be other things too! We need to know who is available and at what times to ensure things run smoothly on the day.
If you cannot attend the meeting but can offer to help, please do contact one of us - either via the Contact us page, or directly - our individual contact details are in the Mendlesham newsletters.
Thank you.
Tote
If you do not already have a Tote ticket, please consider signing up, only £10.00 annually for the fortnightly chance of winning up to £35.00 (you can pay online). Please contact angela.pickup@mendleshamcommunitycharity.com
50:50 shop
Unfortunately, the shop building remains closed while surveys of the damage to the internal panels are completed and decisions made about any necessary work. We hope to open the shop again as soon as it is safe to do so.
Summer Fair
Saturday 22nd June 2024 between 12.00noon and 6.00pm on the Mendlesham Memorial Playing Fields. FREE ENTRY - EVERYONE WELCOME
Over the afternoon there will be a programme of live music, with a range of food and drink stalls and a licensed bar. Activities for children will include games, a magician, face painting and much more.
A Craft Fair will be held in the school main hall with a variety of other stalls outside where you can buy gifts, plants, sweet treats and more. If you would like to have a stall, run an activity, donate a raffle prize, or volunteer your time please contact one of the trustees below.
Newsletter
Please do keep sending your quizzes, pictures, and articles etc in to the newsletter. We have enjoyed them all.
It is hard to believe it is the second month of the New Year already!
June Summer Fair
Thank you to those who turned out in the awful weather for our December 2023 mince pies and mulled wine evening. We now know there is interest in holding a Village Summer Fair. Some good ideas were shared and a few volunteers came forward. We will keep you updated on progress for the event as we move forward. We will be contacting village groups to ask if they would like to have a stall, put on an exhibition, or to do a demonstration or activity on behalf of their village group. Please contact any of the Trustees with ideas you may have, our contact details are below.
We will need more volunteers for a few hours on the day to help- for example by showing stall holders where to set up, and where to park or by helping on a stand like for the Prize Draw.
50:50 Shop
Unfortunately, there is (at time of writing) no update on the 50:50 shop and it remains closed due to structural issues with the building. The Parish Council own the building and are investigating the problems.
We are very keen to get the shop up and running again as soon as possible but the safety of our volunteers and customers is of paramount importance so we can only open again once we know the building is safe for use. We will update you all as soon as we can.
