Challenges Entered: Stretch That Comfort Zone, Wool Applique Cushion
Project: Appliqued cushion
I have decided to enter two challenges. The first is Stretch That Comfort Zone and the second is Wool Appliqué Cushion. The idea was to “Stretch My Comfort Zone” by attempting an embroidery style I didn’t know on the cushion for “Wool Applique Cushion. The style of embroidery is called aari embroidery, popular outside our timeline, but can be traced back to India much earlier. Then I found out what, exactly, I was supposed to use as reference. I’ve included my initial attempt as reference so you will understand why it doesn’t work for this purpose. The other reason I chose to enter the “Stretch Your Comfort Zone” challenge was because this is my first A&S challenge and I am way out of my comfort zone. So, back to the drawing board I go. Not a problem. I am familiar with the technique used for “Wool Applique Cushion” in the mundane world as I am a professional seamstress who has dabbled a bit with quilts.
All materials used are from my personal stash. Outer materials are all natural and inner materials are not. Wool is used for the pillow base and horses and lightweight leather is used for the knotwork. Cotton thread is used in a blanket stitch to secure the leather knotwork and a backstitch is used to secure the horses. Polyester all purpose thread was used to create the pillow form and poly fiber fill was used to stuff the pillow.
