GREAT NEWS!
COMM 108 - Foundations of Human Communication will be offered at
our school site in SPRING 2025.
The class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00 P.M. to 1:30 P.M.
IMPORTANT
Meeting prerequisites and assessment levels for the student's selected MC course(s) may require the student to submit SAT/ACT/AP scores to DEPA. However, the student may also be asked to take an MC English and/or Math (ALEKS) remote assessment.
For more information and guidance on meeting the prerequisites and assessment levels for your selected MC courses, please feel free to contact Ms. Hernandez Rubio. She is here to support you through this process and answer any questions you may have.
To take the MC Remote English placement, students will receive instructions to their MC email accounts.
Please check the information below to take the Math (ALEKS) math assessment.

MC Guided Placement for Math: ALEKS math assessment
Please see in the following link the instructions to take the ALEKS math assessment: https://www.montgomerycollege.edu/_documents/admissions-registration/aleks-math-summary.pdf
The assessment has 2 parts: Assessment 1 is the diagnostic; assessment 2 is the actual placement test.
Both parts MUST be completed to obtain a placement; the “placement” given after the diagnostic does not count. Once BOTH parts are completed, email Ms. Hernandez Rubio and MC academic coordinator – the Dual Enrollment office is not notified when students test.

Winter and summer college courses are not covered. However, financial assistance is available through an MC High School Grant.
Dual Credit
Student can decide to ACCEPT or REFUSE to earn Dual Credit for the MC class(es) they take through JTC.
What is Dual Credit?
If you ACCEPT dual credit, you will:
Earn credit for college AND high school. Usually, an MC class provides three college credits and 1 equivalent high school credit. For instance, an MC math class can give you 3 college credits in math and 1 high school credit in math. So, if you need the equivalent high school credit to graduate, you can ACCEPT dual credit.
Have the MC college class appear in your high school transcript showing that you took the MC class, and the grade you earn in that class will impact your high school GPS as an advanced-level class.
You can also REFUSE to earn dual credit.
Important: Students cannot change this decision if they do poorly in the course by the end of the semester.
For guidance on whether to accept or refuse Dual Credit, students may speak with a counselor and/or DEPA.
Dual Credit Refusal Form
This form must be completed regardless if the student would like ACCEPT or REFUSE to earn dual credit. This form is for our records and must be turned in during registration. Please, see below the steps to complete this important form.
