At McKinnon Secondary College all VCE students are required to attend a minimum of 90% of scheduled classes to complete the year or the semester unit satisfactorily. Absences covered by medical certificates or appropriate professional evidence are not included.
In order to derive the most benefit from their VCE studies, students need to attend regularly. This is reflected in the VCAA requirement that at least 50-60 hours of the 100 hours stipulated for each unit must be done in class.
Assessment in the VCE is continuous and is based on completion of set tasks throughout the year. Students need to attend regularly in order to authenticate their work, specifically by:
participating in introductory skilling and briefing activities;
discussing initial ideas for work with the teacher to ensure that they conform with Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority guidelines;
working on projects and assignments in the presence of the teacher;
conferring with the teacher on work-in-progress.
Students whose attendance is deemed unsatisfactory will have their on-going enrolment subject to review.
