For the purposes of this policy, there are two types of non-clinical courses and clinical courses.
ADD/DROP PERIOD
Students may alter their class schedules as they wish (add or drop classes) prior to the beginning of a semester. Once the semester or session begins, there are specific limitations on this activity.
a. Students have until 11:59 pm on Friday of the first week of the semester or after a class start to augment their course registration.
b. A student can/add or remove themselves from any or all classes within their academic plan without academic penalty.
c. Students need to contact their assigned academic advisor to assist with adding/dropping courses within the add drop period.
d. Clinical courses may require approval from the clinical coordinator/program director to be added to student’s schedule.
e. Courses dropped from a student’s schedule during add/drop period will not show on their transcript.
f. Students may not request to add a course past the add drop period of the course. For example, if a course starts on week 5 of the semester, students have until Friday of week 5 to add or drop the course.
g. Students who elect to drop a course during add/drop period will have their attendance removed from the course.
h. Students who have not posted attendance in any course at the end of the first week will be administratively removed from the course without penalty.
i. If any student drops of their schedule during the add/drop period they will need to either take a leave of absence until their anticipated return date or be withdrawn from their program. If withdrawn, the student will need to reapply to return.
j. If a student drops all their classes after the add/drop period and has not attended any other course, they will be administratively withdrawn from their program and will need to reapply.
WITHDRAW AFTER ADD/DROP
After the add/drop period students may withdraw from a course and/or Mount Carmel College of Nursing. A student must first notify their assigned academic advisor and complete a drop form. Students withdrawing from a course are subject to academic progression review and SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress) at the end of each semester. It is the students’ responsibility to discuss with their academic advisor.
a. Students can drop a course through the 75% mark in the class and receive a “W” grade in the course.
b. After the 75% mark in any course, the student cannot request to be within from a course.
c. It is understood that if a student drops a course that has a co-requisite, the co-requisite course will also be dropped following the same procedure.
d. Students:
a. An undergraduate student may withdraw from only one science course during the program of study.
b. Graduate students may only withdraw from two courses within their program.
