Year 11 and Yr 12 Physics for Trades NCEA Level 1 and Level 2
This a new Science and Physics based course designed to support (but not exclusive) students seeking Trades and BCATs pathway. The course will deliver units mainly Achievement Standards from the Science, Physics and Mathematics curricula applied to context situations. Both level 1 and level 2 will be offered and will be responsive to the students’ needs and aspirations. The intention will be to run 6 week units offering a mixture of contexts through the year.
Units being considered initially are:
Pre-requisites: None
Recoveries: $20 consumables through the year
Year 11 Horticulture NCEA Level 1
This is a mixed course of both practical and theory components comprising of achievement and unit standards. All of the standards are assessed internally. This course can be tailored to meet individual students interests.
This is an applied science course that covers:
• practical skills and knowledge in horticulture production
• propagation of plants from seeds
• primary production in New Zealand
Prerequisite: An enthusiastic work ethic.
Recoveries: $25 (equipment maintenance, seeds, soil additives)
Year 12 Horticulture NCEA Level 2
Horticulture at Level 2 adopts a practical, primary industries ‘production-focused approach’. Involving students in problem solving and the use of appropriate management practices. This years programme concentrates on practical applications of Production Horticulture, Amenity Horticulture and Apiculture. The programme is based around realistic/practical and market contexts. Students will gain valuable lifelong skills, as well as NCEA credits. Assessment will be tailored to meet the needs of the students selecting the course and could range from a number of both academic and practical based achievement and unit standards. Year 12, 13 Earth and Space Science with Statistics NCEA Level 3
This course integrates Earth and Space Science with Statistics at Level 3 of the curriculum and is designed as a two year programme towards gaining university entry qualifications in both subjects. Students will investigate patterns and changes in our coastal and estuarine marine ecosystems and gather data for scientific analysis. A formal report on their findings will be required for assessment. The course enables pathways in science, ecology and environmental studies and is a choice for students of calculus who also need statistics for future tertiary pathways.
Students are expected to have their own BOYD devices.
Recoveries: $20 book plus Research costs if applicable.
