Year 12-13 NCEA Level 2-3

Students who are interested in taking part in our Gateway programme as an option will undergo an interview process with

Mr Smith. Students must have a high level of motivation, strong self-management skills, a vocational focus and be prepared to represent the school with pride in their work placement.

The Gateway Programme is a course that involves structured workplace learning. As part of their Gateway Learning Plan, students will complete generic employment unit standards at school and then after approximately 6-7 weeks will undertake a work placement. Work placements can run for three terms and can take place for a full day each week. Student’s learning and achievement in the workplace is assessed against unit standards in the National Qualifications Framework. Depending on the vocational pathway the student is interested in, she/he will be completing unit standards from Level 1-3.

Aims of the gateway programme:

  • make progress towards qualifications in a chosen career
  • clarify tertiary education courses
  • confirm, or eliminate a career choice before undertaking expensive further training
  • gain specific vocational skills leading to further employment including apprenticeships
