Mrs. Hahr, Mrs. Moore, or Guest Teacher,
You could present this lesson and share the videos as a whole class or you could copy this letter and send it out as an email to your class and they could each watch/listen to the videos on their chrome books and silently draw along.
Hello My Most Amazing Artists! I am sorry that I will not be able to be with you today. I will however be with you in imagination.
Today we will be taking an imaginary journey together, a choose your own adventure of sorts. I will be describing a trip but leaving spaces in the description for you to imagine and draw your own ideas. I wound like you to listen, quietly, without talking or disturbing others. I would like your journey to be your own. If you would like to do some automatic drawing while you listen, great! Automatic drawing is like doodling without a destination. To learn more about automatic drawing click the link below.
Now watch/ listen to the following video to go on an imaginative journey. You may choose to do automatic drawing or create an imaginary world inspired by the story.

Draw a picture of the place you went or another imaginary land you would like to discover or explore. Draw some of the tings you see along your journey of discovery. If you imagined things one way but want to change them for your drawing feel free. If you feel uncertain about how to draw what you have imagined you could put it down in the form of a written journal entry with sketches of some of the plants or animals, vehicles or people (or other intelligent life).
Here are some questions to get you thinking about the details of the land you have visited.
What is the ground made of? Are all of the plant and animal life forms familiar to you or are there some new species you have never seen. What is the climate and weather like. Is there fresh water? Are you underwater or above? Do people live here? Do other intelligent creatures live here? What language do they speak? Can you understand it? What food sources are there for you? Is the food appealing? What do the residents think of your presence? Who is in charge? Is there a form of government here?
This is an exercise in drawing from your imagination, there is no right or wrong way. Be experimental and have fun!
I hope to see you soon!

Mrs. Myriah and Kristen or Guest Teacher, 9:25 to 10:30
Materials: printer paper and crayons
You will have two groups of 8 or 9 Kindergarteners each for 30min. while 1/2 the class is at library. Start with this Emily Arrow song we use as a intro to get us into a studio mindset. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RM5m4oGvum0 Students use 2 markers to tap together to keep rhythm with the song.

I would like to share with you a book I love about a boy who has a Magic Purple Crayon. What he draws comes to life. Let's listen to this story, then you can draw some of the things you would draw, or some of the places you would go if you had such a purple crayon that could make things you draw come to life. I would also like you to be detectives and look for the different kinds of lines that Harold uses and use as many of these different kinds of lines in your drawing.
Here is some paper (81/2 by 11") to draw some of the lines you see in the book.
After watching the video, What are some of the kinds of lines you saw in this book? (try to see if the students can remember some of the following)
Straight Lines, Curved Lines, Zigzag Lines, Bumpy Lines, Wavy Lines,
Now, with a new piece of paper if you would like, pick your own magic crayon (or colored pencil or marker) let's each draw a place that we would like to imagine going with our magic crayon. Let's start off on our journey, but wait, there is no road or path. What kind of path do you imagine? Is it day or night? Is there a moon or sun or stars to follow you on your journey? Do you find fruit trees? On something special? Will you leave behind a protector to guard the spot? Will you have a picnic? Who will eat the leftovers? What will you do on your journey? and How do you find your way back home?
I can't wait to see where you go on your journey!!
Mrs. Joy
Also below are a few more art related read aloud books if you want to do another one. I suggest "The Day The Crayons Quit" and you can suggest that students now use a lot of color so none of the crayons will feel left out.

(play the video but pause it every page or two to record the new kinds of lines you see...Straight Lines, Curved Lines, Zigzag Lines, Bumpy Lines, Wavy Lines,....and take notes/make these lines on their paper to remember the variety of different kinds of lines they can later use in their drawings.)

Feel free to let the students free draw if they finish their "Purple Crayon" or you could share the read aloud Extra Yarn or the Studio Song or a Pumpkin Drawing Demo. I would recommend playing it without the sound from minuit 2 as a visual drawing demo to give them pumpkin drawing ideas.
If you would like something else for the students to do when they are done. Here is a pumpkin. drawing demo. I recommend playing it without the sound from minuit 2 as a drawing demo.
