Sub Plans for November 2nd 2021 for Mrs. Joy's Art Classes
Kerry and Emily, I suggest using square paper for this project. You can find colorful square origami paper that is about 8" square on the selves in the back of my room behind the blue and white checkered curtain. It is in a large tight stack of paper perhaps just to the right of the large white paper. You could also cut printer paper into an 8 1/2" square.
Hello my most amazing artists! I hope you are all having a great Tuesday. In the coming weeks we will be doing a variety of projects which involve inventing and creating our own land, country or island. For this project we will be making our own Maps and Charts. For these we will need a compass rose. I'm sure you have all seen these on maps. They show the cardinal directions (North, South, East and West). Some are very simple and some are very intricate. I hope that you will follow the tutorial below to make a simple compass rose, then take it a bit further to make yours unique and interesting by adding some design elements of your own choice or invention. Take a look at the compass rose examples below to give you some ideas of patters, boarders and other design elements you might like to incorporate in your own design.
Now, what can you add to your compass rose to make it uniquely your own?
And how will you color it?
When you are done with your compass rose Visit this Land Planning Form to start brainstorming ideas for your imaginary land!!!
If you would like to try folding an eight pointed star you could try this origami tutorial to make a paper folded compass rose.
If you finish your compass rose and the Land Planning Form, you could start a design for a flag of your land.
"Hello my most amazing artists! I am sorry I can not be with you today. I hope you will enjoy spending time today in art class creating some fun imaginary robots. Please enjoy this video by art teacher Cassie Stephens. I can't wait to see the robots you create. "
Following this project students could do free drawing, or reading as you like.
