Elements of Art
There are 7 elements of Art: Line, Shape, Form, Color, Texture, Value and Space
For this project we will be creating our own mini watercolor paint box. A fun portable paint box we can have with us in our classroom for completing art projects! We will be using a Sharpie, Oven-bake Sculpey clay, A tin box, and later a variety of water-based tube type pants to fill our paint wells.
Steps:
Label the bottom of your tin box with your first and last name as carefully as possible with a sharpie marker.
Knead your clay until it is an even and flexible or soft texture.
Roll out your clay on your desk into a clay coil bigger around than your thumb.
Cut your coil into two pieces (both should be shorter than the width of your tin box.
Continue to roll you coils until they are both as long as your tin box is wide.
Press them flat and evenly into the tin box along the top and bottom edges, leaving a narrow "hallway" in-between them.
Using your finger, or the back of your sharpie marker make 4-6 hole along each flatened strip of clay inside your box.
Decorate a label for the top of your paint box. I suggest you write something like "Ms. Joy's Paint Box", except with your name, and decorate it colorfully with your markers. Please don't peel the back off your label or put it on your paint box yet!
Clean up your desk.
Free draw in your art journal or make some more artist trading cards.
There are 7 elements of Art: Line, Shape, Form, Color, Texture, Value and Space
For this project we will be creating a spherical form or orb. This will represent one of the elements of art we will then choose three other elements to illustrate (or show on the three strips we will use to make our form). Each strips will be visible in two places on each structure on opposite sides.
Step 1:
Cut out the three strips on the solid, straight, cut lines.
Step 2:
Score on the curved doted lines.
Step 3:
Fold on the 4 curved, scored lines on each strip.
Step 4:
Add a your representation of one element of art on each strip. For this demonstration I am using a needle to make a stippled "texture" on this strip. I am representing, yup, you guessed it Texture.
The Principles of design use the elements of art to create interest in Artworks. There are 7 of them as well. We won't be investigating all of them now but we will explore pattern as this is one principle which can really help to create surface designs which we might want to use in our illustrations of the elements on the surface of our orb.
