I also think it is unique that the sunflowers are not all in their prime. They are disheveled and a bit ragged and even more interesting because of it.

This still life was painted by Vincent Van Gogh, like the one above. I think he had a great ability to capture the truth of the sunflowers in their bewildered and raw beauty. Not to make them look perfect. I think we have an urge to make beautiful objects look the way we think they ought to look (shinier and less blemished) rather than to show them as we see them, wilting or curling. I think Vincent Van Gogh saw that the real form was more truthful and so had a more eternal beauty. Van Gogh only sold one painting in his lifetime (it was not this one), but now his paintings are valued at over 100 million dollars.

I will be using sharpie so you can see my lines in the video. You can look at the vase pictured to the left and if you scroll through the images behind it you will see closer up views of the sunflowers which may help you add detail.

Continue to work on your still life inspired by the work of Vincent Van Gogh, use the following videos about drawing with colored pencils as resources for your drawing. You can first use a fine line dark marker to outline the edges (or contours) of your shapes if you want a crisp dark edge. If you prefer not to add a dark line you can move directly to using colored pencils. Please fill shapes completely and explore using multiple layers of different colors to make custom shades within your drawing. Please watch the first of my colored pencil video demo's below.
