Dr. Jo Knox is an experienced mathematics education consultant with over 30 years of work in primary education as a classroom teacher and facilitator. She currently works as a mathematics consultant part-time for her company Maths Development including delivering Maths Made Easy workshops and part-time for The Learner First. Having completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) focused on Mathematics Education from University of Auckland, Jo has presented at national and international conferences and had papers published in international journals and conference proceedings. Following her PhD, Jo was awarded the 2021 Margaret Morton Memorial Prize recognising the woman with the most potential to succeed in Mathematics Education and completed a 12-month research fellowship with the University of Auckland.
Jo has been involved in a number of projects including writing curriculum resources for the Solomon Islands and professional development modules for Tokelau. She has also served as a member of the Primary Mathematics Association for many years. In 2023, Jo was awarded the Margaret May Blackwell travel fellowship to research transitions from early childhood to school and subsequently spent time during 2024 travelling to Australia, Japan, Singapore and Canada to complete this research. She is a Ministry of Education accredited PLD provider and has been selected to deliver the MoE Professional Learning and Development (PLD) to support the teaching of Te Mātaiaho, the new mathematics and statistics curriculum in years 0-8. Jo continues to be passionate about building teacher competence and confidence in teaching maths and making maths accessible for all learners.
