Relocation Diffusion: The spread of an idea through the physical movement of people from one place to another. An example of this in Australia would be the spread of Christianity.
According to, "The Common Wealth Of Australia," it states, "Christianity is the largest religion in Australia. The diffusion pattern of Christianity is relocation diffusion. When Brittain colonized Australia, their religion was spread to the natives. Since the Brittish were Christian, that was the religion that spread when they colonized the natives of Australia" (Culture).
The chart to the right displays the different religions throughout Australia, Christianity being the biggest section due to relocation diffusion.
Expansion Diffusion
Contagious: Contagious diffusion spreads through direct contact. An example of contagious diffusion in Australia would be the spread of COVID-19.
The map on the left displays the number of Covid cases in each part of Australia.
Hierarchical: Spreads through established structures, such as from urban centers outward, celebrities, or powerful people. An example of this is fashion trends. "Whola" states, "In Australia, the hottest fashion trends for summer 2021-2022 include striped shirts, gingham-patterned dresses and tops, basket bags, layered necklaces and environmentally-friendly materials like linen" (2022 SUMMER FASHION TRENDS: TOP-SELLING STYLES IN AUSTRALIA).
The image on the left displays Australia's fashion.
Stimulus: When a trend spreads to a new location or cultural context and changes in its new location or context. An example of this in Australia is the different McDonald's menu there than in the United States, where McDonald's originated. The menu change is due to the different cultures and food preferences/availability in Australia.
McDonald's is called Macca's in Australia. The image to the right displays a Mcdonald's in Australia.
