The Massac County High School volleyball team has had quite a busy month of June competing in and winning three summer tournaments.
The Lady Patriots spent two days competing at the Crab Orchard Jamboree where they took home the first place trophy finishing with a record of 10-1.
Massac’s McKenzie Dorris and Laken Hoyer were selected as members of the All Tournament team.
Next up for the Lady Pats was the Herrin Summer Smash.
At this event, Massac finished with a 6-1 record knocking off Shelbyville, a perennial powerhouse, as well as Carbondale, Marion and Herrin.
Massac’s third tournament win came at Ballard Memorial High School where they defeated University Heights Academy, Graves County, Trigg County and host Ballard Memorial in the championship match.
Massac is led by their three captains, McKenzie Dorris, Lauren Bunting and Rachael Leek, who have high hopes for this fall’s volleyball season. Also contributing to the Lady Patriot’s 20-2 record this summer include defensive specialist Jessi Stunsun and sophomore stand-outs Emily Hoard, Christina Whitthorne, Jordan Willmes, Rachel Chapman, Josie Garduno, Krista Garduno and Brittany McFall, as well as newcomers Laken Hoyer, Brenna Jackson and Taylor Stephens.
Massac finished the 2011 season with a school record 29 wins while finishing in second place in the River-to-River Conference Ohio division last fall.
