About us

Our story

Mary Eats Cake was built on our founder, Jessica Hillbrick’s passion and love of all things High Tea and desserts. After completing her Patisserie Diploma at Le Cordon Bleu in London, Jess returned to Melbourne to start A Little Afternoon Tea, a small High Tea catering business for private events. 

As the business grew Jess decided to take a leap of faith and open a commercial space. This is when Mary Eats Cake was born. Opening the doors of our Brunswick venue in 2016 we quickly became one of Melbourne's most popular venues for birthdays, bridal and baby showers. 

In 2018 the business expanded opening the charming country cottage venue in Montrose. The next few years that followed we were featured on Postcards twice and in an episode of Yummy Mummies. 

In 2020 the brand integrated a High Tea delivery service. This is now a popular gifting and catering service known for providing quality High Tea and brunch options to those celebrating at home.

Who is Mary?

The name Mary comes from the famous quote "Let them eat cake" attributed to Maire Antoinette. We reference Mary as a person who loves celebrating with friends and family and of course, eating cake.

What we do? 

At Mary's, we offer 5 key services.

High tea: Set menu option that is pre-booked and pre-paid.

A La Carte: Casual dining option where customers can order from the a la carte menu. 

Functions: Special events for milestone occasions such as birthdays, bridal showers and baby showers held in private rooms 

Tours: High Tea and Winery tours around the Yarra Valley

Catering and High Tea at home: Takeaway High Tea and catering option available for pickup and delivery

Opening hours

Wednesday - Thursday: 8 am - 3 pm (kitchen closes 2 pm)

Friday- Sunday: 10 am - 4 pm (kitchen closes 3 pm)

Closed Monday and Tuesday
