MEET THE INSTRUCTOR

My Roots: I’m Lana Koelling and I am excited to be the new FACS Instructor and FCCLA Advisor at BHS! Born and raised in Owensville, MO. My FCCLA Advisor who instilled a passion for family community and food upon me inspired my choice of career. I currently live near the Koelling Family Farm in Bay, MO with my husband, his 14 year old daughter (Lexi),our two sons Kolt (2 ½ years) and Kade (6 months), two dogs, commercial cattle and a couple show Swine. I enjoy spending my summers with family, pitching in around the farm, gardening, and attending culinary/FACS trainings/internships to better my skill set for my students.

My Education: I received an Associate of Arts in Teaching from East Central College in Union, MO in 2010. I then transferred to Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, MO, graduating in 2013 with a BS in Family and Consumer Sciences Education, a BS in Family Studies, and a Provisional Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) Credential. I am currently finishing the Hospitality Administration Graduate Certificate Program through Missouri State University this semester.

My Work Experience: During college, I gained over 4,000 hours of varied culinary experiences and loved every second. With duties ranging from dishwasher/server to line cook to catering to management responsibilities, I like to think I quickly worked my way up within family-owned foodservice. After graduation, I began teaching FACS and Advising FCCLA in Cameron, MO. Four years ago I accepted a teaching position closer to home by becoming the first faculty member of the Culinary Arts program at Rolla Technical Institute before receiving the opportunity to transition back to FACS here at Maries R2.

My Certifications: FACS and CTE Certified Educator. ServSafe Manager Instructor/Proctor Certified for safe food handling, Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Instructor. Certified Secondary Foodservice Educator by the National Restaurant Association.

I look forward to a great year of blending my experiences with your ideas and enthusiasm as we grow the BHS FACS program together!
