Central idea: People communicate to share knowledge and experiences.
We have started to look at Adinkra symbols that are used in West Africa to communicate messages with others.
The children in Oak and Juniper have designed T-shirts and tie-dyed them ready to add the symbols to communicate with others.
Louis: I am going to use the butterfly symbol because that means care and I care for people.
Peyton: I really like all of the symbols but I am going to use the heart because I love hearts and it means patience. I wait.
Isabelle: "Mine looks like the sunshine, it makes me feel warm and happy."
While designing, dying and applying symbols to their T-shirts the children have also developed their fine motor skills by using modelling clay to create symbols. The concentration and attention to detail has impressed us all.
