Central idea: Maintaining peace and resolving conflict can help humans to live harmoniously.
Year 5 have continued their inquiry module, now focusing on how we live harmoniously. As part of this, they have explored the Treaty of Versailles and spent time researching and developing their understanding of both the United Nations (UN) and NATO. The children have been incredibly reflective and inquisitive throughout, engaging in thoughtful discussions and sharing their ideas with their peers.
In Maths, we have been learning about converting measurements and distances. The children have been expanding their mathematical vocabulary and beginning to understand imperial and metric systems.
In English, our focus has been on poetry. The children wrote their own sonnets based on the experiences of a soldier in the World War I trenches. Year 5 thrived with this task, using emotive language to capture the atmosphere of the trenches, while also using rhyme. We have since moved on to planning and writing discussion texts, exploring the question: Should women have had to give their jobs back to men when they returned from war?
As we approach the warmer months, please ensure your child comes to school prepared for the heat—with a water bottle, sun cream, and a sun hat.
