Central idea: People have a responsibility to look after living things (plants).
This week has been a very exciting week as we went on our school trip to Kent Life. Whilst on our trip we saw lots of different animals, using our careful hands to feed the goats and sheep.
"We met Big Dave, he is a big muddy pig. We can't feed the pigs because sometimes they bite".
We had the chance to smell and taste lots of different plants during our Kitchen Garden Workshop.
"I got to taste mint, I learnt that mint goes in toothpaste".
"I got to smell rosemary, I learnt that you can put it on potatoes. It's a herb".
"I learnt that the gardeners look after the plants by watering them every day. They check the fruit every day to make sure it is ready to be picked. When the plums are green that means they are not ready".
We also walked through the hop gardens at Kent Life.
"The hops grow on the poles so they have something to grow up. They get so tall and if they don't have the poles they will go floppy and they won't grow properly".
We have been learning about the responsibilities that hop pickers had when taking care of hops. We got an exciting visit from a farmer that has been producing hops for many years. The children got to see a real hop bine and then see some artefacts that they used.
In maths this week we have been telling the time. We have been identifying the time to o'clock and half past.
"Miss Cordner, the minute hand is on 12 and the hour hand is on 12. That means it is time for us to have our lunch".
