Central idea: Personal choices can impact the environment.
Our learning journey led us to think about how we can capture what we see. As a result, we explored the works of Andreas Gursky. Andreas Gursky is a German photographer, who's photograph was the most expensive to ever be sold, and captures moments in time using a camera as a means to do so.
We decided to combine our new knowledge about how litter can negatively impact the environment and our love of photography to take images around our school.
We then used our editing skills to edit our photographs using the camera app on the iPad.
Clara: So, if a person drops a crisp packet in Marden the rain and wind will push it down the drain and it will go to the sea. If a fish or a dolphin eats it, it will be really really sick!
Throughout the week we investigated how rubbish, even when dropped in Marden, can make its way to the ocean. We used pipes and litter to show how the rain can push plastic pollution down drains and eventually to the sea.
The children were shocked to find out that the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is three times the size of France - that is A LOT of rubbish!
Leonard: That means the turtles will eat it and get sick.
Wilf: I wouldn't want to live with lots of rubbish.
Luana: I really like fish, I don't want them to be sad.
Imogen: We need to stop dropping litter so it doesn't get to the sea.
