3Beech   Learning Update

Central idea: Evidence of past civilzations can be used to make connections to present day society.

As we have come to the end of this inquiry, children have really enjoyed their final pieces of work being showcased.  Firstly, children have successfully presented their knowledge of 'What have the Ancient Egyptians done for us?' in their first class assembly to KS2; and secondly, we have been completely absorbed in publishing our non-chronological reports about the ancient Egyptians, using 'Book Creator' or our own handiwork to create a double page spread.  In DT, we have inquired into the ancient Egyptian invention of the 'shaduf' - how it worked, was its use was and why it was so important.  We enjoyed designing and making our own shaduf: the experience of getting a working pivot proved to be a great challenge!

In maths, we have been challenged to learn about weights and measures - learning how to read scales and distinguish between grams and kilograms.

Our final outdoor learning session last week was a complete delight: looking for signs of spring but also using charcoal from the burnt wood to do our own mark making on the trees.  Thank you Mr Townsend for planning a truly engaging sequence of learning.
