6Aspen  Learning Update

Central idea: Identity and thinking can be influenced through the media.

This week, our learning centered around our scientific focus on organs. On Monday, Mrs Cosgrove (an ophthalmic photographer) came in to talk to us about the human eye and it's components: through dissection, we were able to see the different parts and understand how they work together to help us see. Who knew the pupil is actually just a hole? We then followed this up through dissecting a heart and a set of lungs; this enabled us to understand how these organs function - and see our learning in real anatomical life!

In our inquiry, we have brought it to a close by considering how our identity and thinking can be altered through media. We've considered the reliability of images and how media can be a form of peer pressure: what became clear is that in our modern day society, we have got to be very careful and consider all we are exposed to, as many media aspects aim to change who we are and the way we think!
