6WCK Learning Update

Year 6 Fundraising: Marden's Marvellous Restaurant

We have had a fantastic week fundraising in 6WCK, preparing, cooking and serving our parents food at our Year 6 eatery, Marden's Marvellous Restaurant. The children have showed great maturity and confidence in their roles as waiters and waitresses and it has been amazing to see how much everyone involved has enjoyed the experience.

We want to thank everyone who visited this week. The support we have received has been nothing short of incredible and the donations we have received will certainly give our children a memorable end of year treat.

Central idea: Equal Access to Opportunities Can Make a Difference in the World

Inquiry - Exhibition Thursday 14th July 2022

Much of our transdisciplinary learning is currently focused towards our exhibition: a student-led showcase of work about a topic that affects the world, using the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals as inspiration.

As global citizens, we have been researching and developing knowledge about topical problems the world is currently faced with - both at home and abroad. In collaborative groups, we have used a variety of mediums to begin to document and demonstrate our learning and understanding, considering how we can share this knowledge with our intended audience.

All groups have now been assigned a staff mentor to facilitate the learning in school and you can be a mentor at home too. As a mentor, you are a guide and facilitator. Through conversation about your child's topic, you could question and promote deeper thinking. You could make suggestions as to what they may do to show their learning or what they need to do next given in response to what they already know and have done. Supporting this process will give children fantastic alternative insights that will be invaluable to their projects.

Communication of the details of the exhibition will follow in due course

Family Transition Tip

Allow plenty of opportunities for your child to talk about their feelings about not returning to their primary school and the new challenges that lay ahead.

Write, draw or simply discuss any good or bad memories that they have about their time in primary school. Do they have any favourite lessons or activities? Can you share any memories from your own primary school? Remain positive if you had a negative experience when you were younger, this will be an important learning point for how you were able to overcome difficulties.

Does your child feel ready to move on? If not, what can we do to support?

Make sure that you acknowledge all their feelings; they may change their mind day to day - or even hour to hour! They may have been at Marden since Year R, so could be understandably very sad (or happy!) to be leaving.
