Central idea: Technology constantly evolves to progress human societies.
Year 5 have had a fantastic start to Module 3, diving straight into their new inquiry topic exploring how technology evolves alongside humans. Their first focus has been on space, investigating the technology that has allowed us to study the universe. The children have shown real creativity, producing videos, using different sized balls, explaining the relationship between the moon, Earth and sun.
In Writing, Year 5 have been inspired by our core text The Wild Robot. They designed their own imaginative robots and used ambitious vocabulary and relative clauses to craft detailed character descriptions. Their effort and care have been clear, resulting in well‑structured, thoughtful sentences.
In Maths, the children have wrapped up their work on fractions and have now moved on to multiplication. They are learning to multiply two‑digit numbers by two‑digit numbers using the column method. The class has shown great determination, using their existing knowledge to tackle increasingly challenging problems. Continued practice of times tables at home will really support their progress.
Year 5 also enjoyed an exciting visit to the village library. They shared what they have been learning, explored books linked to their topics, and even had a guided tour to understand how the library works. The children demonstrated that they are truly enthusiastic readers.
