Central idea: The Earth's physical processes may influence people's lives
What an amazing start to our new inquiry! Children are literally fired up to learn about famous volcanoes, physical processes, observing and sorting different types of rocks and finding out how rocks are formed. Children have used drama, research, drawing and writing to share their new knowledge as well as making wonderful plasticine models of the different layers of the Earth. We're now writing our own Antarctic adventure story set in the shadow of Mount Erebus... a volcano on the brink of eruption!
In maths, we have been applying our knowledge of multiplication to calculate using tens and ones numbers. This is our first experience of partitioning before we multiply, and children have used equipment, diagrams and paired work to help support their learning. Please practise times tables at home to help sharpen up children's knowledge on 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10s.
