Central idea: The Suitability to settle may be determined by people's knowledge of the Earth' geological features.
Acacia and Magnolia Class have had a fantastic start to the new term, exploring our new central idea; The Suitability to settle may be determined by people's knowledge of the Earth' geological features. The children have been learning all about Ordnance Survey maps, four-figure grid references and instructional texts, helping them to understand how to navigate and locate places across the UK.
The children have used their Geography skills to research the UK’s six major cities to explore why people choose to settle in different locations. They also investigated the country’s key geological features, using maps to see how landscapes influence where cities are found.
We have many budding artists in Year 4! The children were inspired by the work of Stephen Wiltshire and his incredible cityscape sketches. They practised a range of shading techniques, identified famous landmarks from the six cities they have been studying, and created their own imaginative and detailed city drawings.
It has been a brilliant two weeks of learning, creativity and discovery!
