Central idea: Celebrations can enhance the way we see the world.
The children have had a wonderful week! They have loved practising the Nativity and thoroughly enjoyed performing their dress rehearsal for the older children in school. They also had great fun watching the Aladdin pantomime and learning all the songs and actions for the Nativity.
In Maths, we have continued to explore number bonds to 10, using tens frames and Numicon to find all the different ways to make 10. We know that even if we swap the numbers around in a number sentence, the answer stays the same. Through using a range of manipulatives, we have explored different representations of 10 and written number sentences to show our understanding, reminding ourselves that “adding means we add the numbers together, and equals tells us what the numbers make altogether.”
In Inquiry, we began the week by labelling maps of the UK, learning which countries make up the UK and adding labels for each country and its capital city—making sure to use capital letters, of course! We then explored a range of celebrations that take place across the UK such as St David's and St Andrew's Day. We also learned about celebrations such as Diwali, Eid, Christmas and Easter, and enjoyed writing sentences about the traditions linked to each one.
We can’t wait to perform our Nativity next week!
