Central idea: People communicate to share their knowledge and experiences.
Following our learning about the place of Jackson Pollock's birth, we quickly discovered that there are deserts in other regions. We made the adventure to Egypt using Google Earth.
We have been learning about the climate, the animals and the history.
Jasper: Mrs Mason, we have made a pyramid like the ones in Egypt.
Asher: Pyramids look like lots of steps. They are the colour of sand.
Rowan: The pyramids were a built a long, long time ago and they are really tall. Our pyramid is nearly as tall as us.
Alfie: It is hot.
Alex: It is hot like California. You would definitely have to wear shorts and a T - shirt.
Mollie: I think it would be very hot in Egypt, not like here in Marden.
Arthur: Animals who like hot weather live there. Like camels and lizards and crocodiles.
Eleanor: You would have to wear sun cream too so you were safe in the hot weather.
While looking at early communication, the children were fascinated to see that Ancient Egyptians communicated using a different code to us. Using a website, we translated our names to write using hieroglyphics.
It was important to make our own paper too!
Otis: A long long time ago in Egypt, they used plants to make paper.
We have looked closely at other symbols used in Ancient Egypt which are used as a form of communication and connection.
Leo W: I like this one because it means you like art.
Ora: I am drawing the symbol for the sun.
Eleanor: This one means looking after your friends and it looks a bit like a shepherd.
Alice: I like this one because they wear nice jewellery.
Going forward, we plan to create jewellery based on the symbols that they like the most to further communicate with others.
