Last Academic year, a number of parents from different cultures gathered to discuss how we could celebrate and develop our children's understanding of different backgrounds and traditions around the world.
Last Friday, during assembly, Lena and Anton spoke clearly about how they put boots outside of their home following the tradition celebrated in Germany with their family.
In Germany, Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg, St Nikolaus or Sinterklaas is a revered figure who is celebrated on December 6th and is a precursor to the modern day Santa Claus. On the night of December 5th, children place their clean shoes or boots outside to be filled with treats like chocolate or fruits by Nikolaus, a kind, bishop-like figure.
We, at Leigh Academy Marden, also celebrated this important family tradition by placing a boot outside of every classroom. On Monday morning every child was met with a sweet treat.
