WHAT IS eNGLISH?


Year 7 English builds on the literacy skills acquired at primary levels and seeks to develop critical thinking about issues in a variety of texts. The course also aims to encourage reading at an increasingly sophisticated level of enjoyment and language enrichment. It prepares students to meet the demands of further studies in English and equips them with the necessary skills to express themselves effectively.

WHAT DO WE STUDY AT YEAR 7?

In year 7 we study four main topics through the year, each running for a term.

  1. Boy by Roald Dahl

  2. Advertising and Reviewing the News

  3. Fairy Tales

  4. Poetry

HOW MANY SESSIONS IN A WEEK?

There are 5 English sessions in the year 7 timetable. Four of these are dedicated to core curriculum and class work linked to the areas of study. One session each week is a library session in where students will develop their reading skills and be given an opportunity to read a range of texts available in our senior library space.

How many hours of homework is recommended for english?

It is recommended that students spend 30 minutes each night reading to enhance their stamina and exposure to vocabulary. Students should also spend 10 minutes revising their learning from their English class and additionally completing any set tasks that were not completed in class time or that are outlined by their English teacher.
