what is english as an additional Language (EAL)?

There is an eligibility criteria for EAL students. At Year 7 EAL (English as an Additional Language) is a separate subject that gives an intensive study in English and complements other subjects studied. Through the EAL program, recently arrived students are supported to develop and extend their English language acquisition competence through increasing listening and speaking skills, strengthening reading and comprehension levels to gain information, and improve their writing abilities. Students will also develop their understanding and confidence to be successful in all school activities. EAL generally consists of smaller class numbers; providing students with a specialist and conducive learning environment.
