Welcome to Year 4 

Your class teacher is Miss Kernott.

Helping you in your class will be Mrs Brokenbrow on a Monday and Tuesday, and Mrs Gilmore on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as our learning support assistants.

Autumn Term

Last half term, we learnt all about the Romans in history, where the children looked at what the Romans did and how they lived. In Science, the children really enjoyed learning all about electricity; we even made our own switches and torches! We also had a lot of fun with our new music lesson; learning how to sing and play instruments to the song Mamma Mia! In Talk 4 Writing, we completed a journey story and a Non-Chronological report on a made-up creature! 


This half term, we are swapping to geography and are learning all about migration. In science, we are going to be learning about animals including humans. In Talk 4 Writing we will be creating a story about Defeating a Monster and then writing instructions in order to defeat a monster. In maths, we will be focusing on multiplication and division, so we will be learning lots of our times tables!

Spring Term

This Half Term, are writing a suspense story in Talk 4 Writing. We are also learning all about Fractions or shapes and amounts in Maths. In History, we are learning about the Anglo Saxons, how they lived and what changes they made to Britain. In Science, we are doing lots of experiments relating to States of Matter, gaining a much wider understanding of Solids, Liquids and Gases!

Summer Term


Last half term we came up with lots of reasons why someone might want to visit Egypt and created a persuasive text in our T4W lessons.In maths, we were finding the area and perimeter of different shapes and objects and how to measure in a variety of different ways. In History, we were learning about the vikings and how they conquered different countries. We then linked this to our Art lesson where we created parts of a tapestry based on the Battle of Maldon. Our science topic was all about sound and how it works - we enjoyed making lots of noises! 


Summer 2:

This half term, our T4W text is based on the book The Butterfly Lion. We are going to be coming up with our own warning stories where something bad will happen! In Maths we are going to be learning all about 2-D and 3-D shapes, symmetry and  position and directions - There will be lots of practical work to get stuck into! In Geography we will be learning all about the natural resources of the world and in science we are going to be classifying animals and plants in a variety of ways, based on the topic "All living things and their habitats"
