Year 1 - Blake and Monet

Autumn Term
Last half term our focus text was Mama Panya's Pancakes. This half term we are working on Where the Wild Things are. The children will be writing portal stories with a similar focus. We will be working on finger spaces, full stops, capital letters and encouraging the use of adjectives.
In Maths last half term we have been learning about: numbers within 20, adding and subtracting within 10 and shape and pattern. This half term we will be looking at adding and subtracting within 20 and exploring time.
In the afternoon we have been learning about hot and cold places, living things including humans and animals.
Spring Term
This term we are reading the Supertato story and creating our own villain stories. We will also be writing a text about how to trap the evil pea and writing a diary entry about the evil pea. We will continue working on finger spaces, full stops, capital letters and encouraging the use of adjectives.
In Maths this term we are focusing on addition and subtraction strategies followed by working with numbers to 50. We will then move on to introducing fractions.
In the afternoon year one will be learning about the differences between changes in recent history and historical events beyond living memory. In Science we are learning about everyday materials.
Summer Term
In writing this half term we are reading Monstersaurus. We will be working on writing a defeating a monster story and then move onto non-chronological reports. The children will be choosing their own animal.
During maths lessons we will be learning about numbers 50 to 100 and beyond and then addition and subtraction within 100.
Our core subjects, which are taught in the afternoons, will cover creating media and digital writing during computing and Big Bear Funk will be the song we learn in music. Our final DT project for year 1 will be making a fruit salad!
This term we are reading The Bear Who Stared and creating our own journey story. We will continue to work on capital letters, punctuation, adjectives and introduce conjunctions.
In Maths this term we are focusing on money, multiplication and division finishing on capacity and volume.
In the afternoon, year one will be learning about programming animations in computing, common plants and structure in science and painting and mixed media in art. In PE we will be focusing on athletics and ball skills.
