Reviews of Prior Learning

The School of Nursing can review prior course syllabi for admitted nursing students who believe that a course or courses they have previously taken may be directly equivalent to a NUR or CON course at USM.

We can only consider courses in which the student received a C or better grade.

If students want to have more than one course reviewed, they should submit the form separately for each course.

We are unable to review science courses (biology, chemistry), social sciences (psychology, growth and development, sociology) or general education courses. Please contact USM Transfer Affairs directly.

To submit a syllabus for possible NUR or CON course equivalency follow these steps.

  1. Obtain a copy of the syllabus. We cannot review a course without the syllabus.

  2. Submit the syllabus using the Prior Learning Review Form.

Challenge Exams in Genetics or Pharmacology

  1. Students should submit the Prior Learning Review Form. The form will have an option for challenge exams where you can share information about your prior learning in either genetics or pharmacology.

  2. The School of Nursing will review the information you submit and contact you about whether a challenge exam may be possible or not.
