Introduction
As soon as they had gotten into power, the Nazis began implementing a policy of Gleichschaltung, which means “centralisation”. The centralisation was to put Nazi beliefs and ideology at the “centre” of the State, a process of Nazification. The Nazi vision was of a volksgemeinschaft, a “people’s community” of one race and a unified German identity. To try to ensure compliance from the German people, over half of whom did not vote for the Nazis in 1933, they passed laws to encourage Nazi thinking and ban non-Nazi groups, censored speech and art, used terror and repression tactics to punish anyone who did not conform, and promoted these ideals through propaganda . These methods of control would have impacts on all parts of German society (the impact will be explored in section 3.6).

Each member of the class will become an expert on one of the ways the Nazi Party exercised control. You need to put together a 5 minute crash course to deliver to the class. This will include a presentation to show behind you and a script. You must included the answer to the question embedded in each of your respective sections.
Each person will deliver their content while your peers take notes. Be ready to answer any questions your audience will ask. (Audience; be ready to ask questions)
Note: Terror/Repression is a flipped lesson to complete at home
The various methods used by the Nazi regime to exercise control, including laws, censorship, repression, terror, propaganda, cult of personality
In this section you have clearly defined areas of content so make sure your notes reflect each of these in detail.
A 10-15 mark question in this section is highly likely so perhaps 3-4 key examples for each of the areas listed (including relevant historians) would be your goal.
Recognise the overall purpose of the Nazis was to control society, a potential question could ask you to evaluate the effectiveness of some/all of the methods listed above so ask yourself which had the most significant impacts
This question could include examples taken from 1933-34 (consolidation of power) right up to 1939 but remember to select examples that focus on exercising control, don’t just tell the marker everything that you know about the cult of personality for example.
