Family Engagement Events 2023-2024


 

Below you will find the dates and times for the 2023-2024  Parent University Family Engagement Events. The Parent University Events listed at the District Education Center are OPEN to ALL Lufkin ISD Families. Adult family members of students in Clubhouse & Power Up Club are required to attend one family engagement event per semester while their student is enrolled in the afterschool program. Signing up for an event here does not give actual credit for attendance. An Attendance Exit Ticket will be available at each event. Events take place at your student’s school, at the District Education Center, in the community and online. Scroll down to see the list of events. Campuses are listed in alphabetical order. 21st Century Texas ACE- Lufkin ISD Family Engagement Advisory Team Meetings

Mondays, 10-11 a.m.  Jan. 22, Feb. 19, Mar. 18, Apr. 15

The  Family Engagement Advisory Team meets monthly and works  to ensure that the 21st Century Texas ACE  families have the tools and opportunities to be active and effective partners in their children's school experience; and support schools and community partners in building family-school partnerships to support learning opportunities in the classroom, community, and at home. 

 




Aprende Inglés/ Learn English (Start anytime! Ongoing enrollment. Sign up any time) 

Beginner English Classes  ( Inglés Nivel Basico) Tues. & Thurs., 6-8 p.m.

Intermediate English Classes ( Inglés Nivel Intermedio) Mon. & Wed. 6-8 p.m.

An opportunity for international students, immigrants, professionals, and other English Language Learners (ELLs) to study, acquire & improve essential English skills. Classes provided by Angelina College Adult Education to help students learn to read, write, speak, and understand American English for social, professional, and academic purposes. (Must be 18+ or older)

 


 

CPR/First Aid Class, Sat. Sept. 16 & Feb.  24, 9-1p.m.

First aid basics, Medical emergencies, Injury emergencies, Environmental emergencies, Adult & Infant CPR and AED use.
Class is open to Clubhouse & Power Up Club Parents. Class is limited to 6 participants. 


Computer  & Job Skills Certification Course:

Fall Session: Tuesdays, 6-8 p.m. Sept. 5, 12, 19 & Sept. 26


Boost your job prospects!  Do you feel your lack of computer skills are holding you back? Gain skills & training that lead to nationally accredited certification. Job readiness, resume writing & interviewing skills. Develop confidence in using relevant digital tools for today’s current work force. An exciting collaboration between 21st Century Texas ACE/Lufkin ISD & Goodwill Central East Texas Industries. No experience necessary Must be 18+ or older.

 

The Computer Skills certification course  is a PREREQUISITE for the following certification courses: Microsoft 365, Google IT Support Professional, Automation with Python, Data Analytics, UX Design, Project Management, Adobe Career Path, Front Desk Representative, QuickBooks


 

 

GED Classes (Start anytime! Ongoing enrollment. Sign up any time) Tues & Thurs, 6-8 p.m.

Need your GED to get a job, a promotion or a college diploma? Prepare to take the test and pass with flying colors.

This program provided by Angelina College Adult Education will help you increase your academic skills with small GED classes and hands-on learning. Must be 18+ or older

 

 Healthy Eating, 4 Session Nutrition Course

Fall Session: Tuesdays, Oct. 17, 24, 31 & Nov. 7, 10:30  a.m.-12 p.m.

Learn to cook healthier meals for you & your family, reduce stress related to shopping on a budget, creative ways to add more veggies & fruits to your diet & more! Receive complimentary gifts & sample foods during class. After completing the four sessions and the post-survey, you will receive a certificate of completion. Taught by Joel Redus, MS, RDN, LD, County Extension Agent- Family and Community Health Angelina County | Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service


Latino Literacy: Oct. 19, 26, Nov. 2, 9, 16, 30, Dec. 7 & 14, 5:30-7:00 p.m.

Everyone needs a break sometimes—and a little support. Parent Café Family Chats are here for you. Parent Café Family Chats are judgment-free spaces run by parents for parents where parents can kick back for an hour and focus on themselves.  Sessions are in English & Spanish



Pax Tools, Sat. Nov. 4 & Dec. 9, 9:00 a.m. -12:30 p.m.

Simple  evidence -based strategies  or teaching kids behavior (Reduce conflict and have better relationships!).

Upon completion participants will receive a completion certificate & a Pax Tools Kit. ( Offered in English & Spanish)


Resilient Kids ( Dates & Times To Be Determined)

A 13-week evidence-based parenting program developed to build stronger families by empowering parents with the confidence, tools, and skills they need to raise healthy, caring, and responsible children. Our program increases parents’ knowledge and skill level of the essential building blocks every child needs — the 40 Developmental Assets from Search Institute, which are proven to increase childhood resiliency and academic achievement.

Learn about U.S. history, our system of government, geography, rights and responsibilities, ways to participate in our democracy, and more. You will prepare for the USCIS citizenship tests and practice for your interview. This class is for legal residents with intermediate to advanced English skills. 

 

Volunteer 101 (call  or email for information )

There are 101 ways to volunteer at school. Find your passion for volunteering to serve in ways that make a difference. Help the Site Coordinator prep for the afterschool program, or teach a class, assist with planning or  volunteer at an event. Join this workshop to learn the many ways you can do what you love to do, to help others.
