It was established by the state of Delaware. It was changed to "Delaware State University." It recently acquired Wesley College in Wilmington and made it a campus extension.
Elizabeth City State University

It was established by the state of North Carolina as a teachers college. Today, it is a part of the University of North Carolina System.
North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University

It is the largest HBCU in the United States. It graduates more black engineers than any other university in the United States. It played a major role in the Civil Rights Movement of the 20th Century.
West Virginia State University

Founded as the Slater Industrial Academy. In 1925, it became a teacher's college and achieved university-status in 1969. It is a nationally ranked university in the Social Mobility Index.

Texas College

It is a Christian Methodist Episcopal college. In 1909, the name was changed to Phillips University, but was renamed Texas College three years later.
