Bouncing in to form

Following on from the success of the 2016-17 season achievements, the students who play for the Lordswood Boy's School basketball team have 'bounced' off to a Stella start in their first game of the 2017-18 season.

After reaching the finals of the Birmingham Schools Basketball league last season and narrowly missing out on taking the top spot, the boys’ are back and hungry for more. The first game of the season was set to be a tough challenge against a prominent side from St Georges School, Edgbaston. Lordswood have trained tirelessly, committing to a rigorous fitness regime and strict practice schedule. Their aim…to ensure no layup or 3-point shot is missed. Taishaun Roach, team captain and Deputy head boy said “We want to run the table this season. We came so close to winning the league last year, we won’t settle for anything less this season. Our focus on playing basketball is driven by the success and achievements we are making in our academic studies. We know we can be the best in everything we do. My team commit to every training session and every game without exception”. The game ended 46-10 to Lordswood. A clear sign that the off season preparation had played dividend to their success.

The fixture schedule is relentless with at least a game per week. Mr Arshad - team coach said “With such high demands on the boys academic studies, I have the greatest admiration for them. Their commitment is unwavering. Their belief…truly remarkable!”.

Lordswood Boys’ School sporting success is stacked high. During the season of 2014-15 the year 11 football team reached the final of the Villa Cup, playing against Lode Heath school at Villa Park. And now the school has formed a new partnership with Birmingham University and the Birmingham Lions American Football team. NFL coaches visit the school every week providing training and fitness sessions for the students. During the 2018-19 NFL international series, Lordswood Boys’ School students will play during the half time interval at Wembley stadium. Exciting times ahead for the students at the school.
